As the size of the misreporting and the underestimation of the burden of obesity varies by background variables, she stresses the importance to determine correction factors by these variables.

Herman is currently Director of the Directorate Public Health and Surveillance of the Scientific Institute in Public Health in Brussels, Belgium. Additionally, he is Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Ghent. Professor Van Oyen first worked as a medical doctor in Haiti before going on to study public health, epidemiology and biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomburg School of Public Health where he completed a DrPH. His key research interests include epidemiological methods, survey methodology, health inequality and summary measures of population health. He is author of more than 100 scientific publications, books and book chapters.

The World Malaria Report 2017 presents a comprehensive state of play in global progress in the fight against malaria up to the end of 2016.

This year's report shows that after an unprecedented period of success in global malaria control, progress has stalled. In 2016, there were an estimated 216 million cases of malaria, an increase of about 5 million cases over 2015. Deaths reached 445 000, a similar number to the previous year.
